Summer Dreams

I've had it on the back of my mind for a while now. Lately it's become a bit of an obsession.

I've been dreaming of having a bike. I want to be able to get to the beach without having to get in my car. I'm used to being walking distance but now I'm too far for my two feet to get me there.... unless...

On the Brooklyn Bridge was where my mind was truly opened to the concept of a bike as a tool for getting around. As I walked across there were the sounds of bike bells echoing through the humid air. I grew up taking bike rides through forests and parks and especially for riding to swim in the river.

It was so much better than walking because I didn't have to waste any time being out of the water.

I would ride home as fast as my pedals could take me, eat dinner and then blast back to jump into the cool moving water.

Those were my summers when I was a kid. I lived and breathed the outdoors.

These days I struggle with trying to figure out how to get enough exercise that won't beat the living daylights out of me with exhaustion. I do okay for a while and then I crash. With a bike I could leisurely get places I want to go.

I could pick up some groceries, cruise by the open air markets and take a lunch down to the beach.

I could sit under the willows at Beacon Hill park and ride through the long grass that rolls down to the ocean waves. Mostly, I could gain back some of things in life I have lost.

This dream obsession brought to you with photos from Electra Bikes, and Basil bike accessories.

Normal is on the Horizon

Sleeping is so hard and gross. Every night it's a big chore to try and get to sleep and when I do it's like skipping a rock across the water. I'm only skimming sleep. While partially asleep I'm having complicated dreams about past emotional losses, torments and having adventures in detailed claymation scapes. I know. I'm odd.

Apparently this is all part of the process to get me sleeping again. My GP did tell me that I would start dreaming again but WHOA! Wild wild mental night escapades. Despite it being a form of torture and me involuntarily staying up until 1:00am and being in bed until noon, I am starting to feel better again. After 3 weeks of getting winded walking from room to room I have picked up the hoop again and even partially walked up the mountain.

When I did go up the mountain I was super slow and had my agile 14 year old saying, "C'mon mum, hurry up, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon". I would have strangled him if I had been able to catch him.

All in all things are getting better. It's just so aggravating that after getting a bone marrow transplant it can be like having a clunking car engine that needs a major tune up. Everything, EVERYTHING is off kilter and it makes living hard, but if a whole lot of things can get adjusted back into place (hormones, muscles, sleep, medicaions etc. etc.) then a "normal" life is on the horizon.

It feels fantastic to be able to say that.

Year of the Dream

Happy New year to the world. Let it be better than past. This is the year for dreaming, and seeing those dreams become a part of reality.

This amazing painting/collage was made for me by a friend who truly understands me right now. I was blown away how she saw me even though I feel like crap. The only thing that would make it better would be to have a laptop beside her. Ha Ha!

Thanks Real Diva! When I look at it it makes me see myself in a better light. And I looove the sparkles. Check out Real Diva's Etsy shop here.

I've been dreaming from my bed for a year and I'm ready to start! It won't be as easy as that but I know I can get something good done. I have a show of my work to prepare for in May. I have my website to fine tune and put online. I may be slower than a banana slug but I also know one small inch at a time will get me there.

Here's to hoping! And as Yoda said, "there is no try, there is only, do".

"There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality, and then there are those who turn one into the other."

Dream, Live, Do...I'll be watching!
