Knife Attack

I'm reeling right now.

My son was out with his girlfriend on their two year anniversary yesterday and three random guys started to hassle his girlfriend. My son looked at him the "wrong way" and the guy began trying to punch him and then pulled out a knife. They had just had a romantic dinner (so cute) and were waiting at the bus stop to go to a movie. Unbelievable. It's not like we live in a bad place. We actually live in a fairly safe place but I guess knife wielding fuckwads live everywhere.

I had my son in karate lessons for years when he was little and he learned to block like a little genius. I used to play with him and try to hit him and I never could! He was so smooth with his movements, like a scene out of the Matrix. I was amazed at his skill at such a young age. Amazingly this 16 year old kid tried over and over to hit him, grabbed his necklace and tore it off and then pulled the knife. My son didn't retaliate, he just dodged everything this guy threw at him. My son doesn't even have a scratch on him now although his back is sore. He also blocked the attack with his long board.

When he was little a friend of mine disagreed with him being in karate and said it promoted violence. She said he should be in piano instead. The piano wouldn't have done him much good yesterday although had one been there, I suppose it could have made an effective blocking tool. Or maybe he could have yelled, "Don't hit me, I play the piano!"

I spoke to the police and two of the kids are still in jail. Right now I am just thankful he is okay and safe...

Holy Shit! I'm glad he is ok and not hurt. Is his Girlfriend ok too?

There are arseholes all over, thankfully they are few and the good people are many. As long as the many stand up against the behaviour of the few without resorting to that behaviour themselves things should be ok. Your son deserves a huge hug for not using his training to do anything other than defending himself and his girlfriend.

Bravo for the karate dodging skills and not retaliating. So glad both your son and his girlfriend are ok.

Oh my god! Now I want to go take karate :) My dad had me in it years ago so that I would "learn grace"...I was very clumsy.

Anyway, all I have to say is I'm glad your son is safe, and press as many damn charges against those kids as you can! Even the smallest, pitty things like "emotional distress".
