Neighborhood Art Walk

I've been suffering some serious cabin fever since the H1N1 reared it's pinhead and was well enough today to go for a walk. Since I haven't actually bonded with my 10 month or so new neighborhood I decided to take in the sights that are all around my home. Since I've been here I've realized this place is like no other I've seen before. Out of necessity I've traded the woods and wildlife I crossed paths with everyday for... other things.

In this new place I seem to be surrounded by oddities of human nature. Expressions of self on this man made terrain.

Philosophers wax poetic on concrete, anarchists speak with paint, sharpies author introspection, politics are pictorial and wool replaces words.

Kind of wild.

The one above is very political against the Olympics and a slew of other things all wrapped up into one mural. Very creative message to the people.

My neighborhood reminds me that art doesn't need canvas or university degrees. It's our very breath.

It seems that everything that sits still here gets painted...or knitted.

I forgot to take a photo of the tree that has a sweater kitted onto it.

Wow, what a cool place! Used to see stuff like this when we lived in Austin, but never in Fort Worth. :)

Wonderful to see. The object of us all should be to make the world a happier place.

Thanks for sharing.

Oh wow! I love the bears painted on the side of the building! How great is it to come across little bits of creativity in public places? :)

Where is you neighbourhood? It reminds me of living in Berlin. Not much art around where I live now.
Where can I purchase a knitted dress for my bike? It's getting awfully cold in Colorado this time of year...

I need to visit your neighborhood. I can't believe that all of those prettified things are in one place. The knitted bike and the mural with the cats and the trees are my fave.

So very cool. Wishing some of the "street artists" around here had such vibrant imaginations. :)

I think my favourite is the crochet flowers stapled to the fence. They are so random but the colour just pops!

I love seeing things through your eyes and lens. I know you have spoken of mourning the loss of a former creative life, but I see/feel much in your words and photos.

And I want to see the tree with the sweater!

BaldyLocks said...

I will definitely post the tree with the sweater later, assuming that the tree is still wearing the sweater.

I'm glad you see the creativity in me Kirsten. Sometimes I feel like it's drained right out of my feet.

Very cool Kyra!

Thanks Baldylocks - I enjoyed coming with you onto the streets on your creative and colorful tour of some of the art of your neighborhood :)

My favorites - the two people kissing, and the forest wall which is so realistically three dimensional that I'm unable to figure out whether the forest is in front of the wall or painted onto it.

Keep creating!

Lovely! Nothing like that out in the burbs where I live. I'm glad I can live vicariously through your art-strewn world.

The amazing thing about that forest mural is that it's been there since I was a kid. We sat inside the Romeo's pizza looking at it through the large windows when we drove to the city. Now the Romeo's is long gone and a new building is there. The space is changing all around it but it still looks as amazing as ever.

I love how different the street art is in Vancouver than in Brooklyn. It's so much sweeter and happier than ours is. We have amazing street art, bit it's more like girls wearing big gold earrings, robots and tags.
