Summer Dreams

I've had it on the back of my mind for a while now. Lately it's become a bit of an obsession.

I've been dreaming of having a bike. I want to be able to get to the beach without having to get in my car. I'm used to being walking distance but now I'm too far for my two feet to get me there.... unless...

On the Brooklyn Bridge was where my mind was truly opened to the concept of a bike as a tool for getting around. As I walked across there were the sounds of bike bells echoing through the humid air. I grew up taking bike rides through forests and parks and especially for riding to swim in the river.

It was so much better than walking because I didn't have to waste any time being out of the water.

I would ride home as fast as my pedals could take me, eat dinner and then blast back to jump into the cool moving water.

Those were my summers when I was a kid. I lived and breathed the outdoors.

These days I struggle with trying to figure out how to get enough exercise that won't beat the living daylights out of me with exhaustion. I do okay for a while and then I crash. With a bike I could leisurely get places I want to go.

I could pick up some groceries, cruise by the open air markets and take a lunch down to the beach.

I could sit under the willows at Beacon Hill park and ride through the long grass that rolls down to the ocean waves. Mostly, I could gain back some of things in life I have lost.

This dream obsession brought to you with photos from Electra Bikes, and Basil bike accessories.

Sounds like a wonderful idea...a bike. Cycling through Beacon Hill park is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and listen to the concerts....or any day is good but don't forget to treat yourself to those delicious ice creams at Beacon Hill drive-in. I live here as well on this beautiful island.:)

Yay! Another Islander! I hadn't even thought about the outdoor concerts, what a great idea. I love your blogs by the way, very colourful with such beautiful pictures!

funny after 3 years of not cycling (I was a serious cyclist/mountain biker pre-lymphoma), I just this past week started to cycle again.
hooray for 2 wheeled freedom!!! :)
Of course I had to treat myself to a swanky new bike, this time I decided to take things easy and get a road bike http://www.brownssports.com/images/bicycle_images/2009/rm09_rc10v.jpg
rather then use my old mountain bike. It just depressed me to use that bike as it represented all the things I could do before cancer and the dreaded BMT...
you know if you lived even half the distance you do from me I would send you my old bike

as you can see Im trying to sell it but it would give me greater pleasure to give it to you. we are the same height so it would be perfect for you. If you think shipping it to you would be far more affordable then you buying a new one its yours... for the cost of shipping from (lovely and NON violent but still not g20 positive) Toronto. :)
you know where to find me if you decide you want it ... get in touch and if not we need to share bike riding image taking fun once we are both mobile...
Ive been scheming a mount for my camera to my front handle bars or for my helmet for some fun bike stop motion films...
